Antivirus software is used in the prevention, detection and removal of malicious software such as computer virus, Trojans from a computer system. They come in different types; the conventional antivirus type based on virus signatures that are stored on the user computer. Downloading of new virus signatures is done on a regular basis to keep the anti-virus database up-to-date. All scanning is done locally and the user processor and memory is used in the process. There is the cloud based antivirus type which usually consists of a client (a lightweight program running on your machine) and Web service components (this is software which runs on some servers on the Internet. It will handle majority of the data processing exempting your machine from need of processing or storing large amounts of virus information).

Little processing is done locally thus no overload to your machine unlike the others which consume most of your processor and memory
I will be using Panda Cloud Antivirus. It is a cloud-based antivirus in that the user files are uploaded and scanned in remote servers thus does not consume the processor of the user computer. Click here to go to the homepage.
Panda offers two products. The Panda Cloud Antivirus recommended for home use. Click on the “For home” menu for a full list of features available for this SignUp. For this tutorial, we will be signing up for the Panda Cloud Antivirus PRO. The product has a subscription of $29.99 per year. Panda cloud product can be used for Windows (8, 7, Vista) 32 and 64-bit and Windows XP from service pack 2 or later. For purchases, payments can be done using the following means
We will start off by creating a Panda account. Click on “access to account” link at the top right end of the home page. Loads a page where you log-in or sign up for an account if you don’t have one. Click on ‘Don’t have an account yet’ link at the bottom.
Loads a page where you enter your account credentials. A valid email address is required. Optional details include the nickname to use for your account, an avatar and signature. The code is for purchased version.
A success page for account creation loads informing of creation of your account.
Visit your email to check for the activation link. This must be used to complete account activation.
Loads a page which confirms that the account has been activated. Click on “Go to my account” link.
A login page loads where you enter the credentials of your account.
If the credentials are valid, a page loads with the account details. On the right is the panda cloud antivirus PRO edition product which you need to install. We can choose to buy or use the free version for 30 days. Click on ‘Try it free’ link to get started.
This opens a download executable. Download the file and choose to install
It opens a page where you accept the license agreement
Select desired installation options. You can change in the language, the installation folder, whether to install security toolbar in the browsers, setting blekko as the default search engine and setting mystart as the default home page for the browsers.
It then downloads the panda cloud antivirus
After installation complete, you need lo log-in with the credentials of a valid panda cloud account.
And the activation process begins
It is required you restart your machine for all settings to be complete. Start the panda cloud antivirus application. The interface is easy to navigate through. Time now to go through the application and set your application to work as you require it to.
An internet connection is required for up-to-date protection. In offline mode it relies on the local cache which holds details of common threats in circulation.
Cloud antivirus has reduced the need to download hundreds of MB of virus signatures to your local computer thus saving on space; it also saves on processor power as scanning done remotely. The challenge is getting the files to the remote server and the security of the files during transit. Also the algorithm used to make sure the thousands of files in the computer get scanned and priority used.
